Default Source for shock collar wrenches? DIY tool?

Hammering on the aluminum locking collars of the Bilstein HDs with a piece of square steel stock gives me the *******. Does anyone have a reasonably priced source for the proper wrench, or a savvy DIY tool that can be made from something commonly available?

Thanks!

JoH

PS: And don't say "channellocks" That'll give me the ******* too.

Try Mcmaster.com

Here is a direct link, scroll down half the way and pick the hook style spanner wrench in the size you need.

I got my 'hook spanner wrench' from the Acklands Grainger in town (www.acklandsgrainger.com) - it's an Proto (?sp) and is adjustable over a range of sizes. It cost me about $50 CAD.

Two thin hook spanner wrenches are best, especially for locking two nuts together.

Just to throw in another thought, you might want to take a look here. After having used the fancy hooks and pronated arm ones, I went to these and never looked back... They are also a lot easier on your hands...

JOH -

Why not just have your alignment shop torque everything down? You just need the collars to stay generally where they are until you get there.

Exactly.

I'm kinda bummed that, other than 16 mm box end, I didn't have to buy any new tools for this job.

(oh wait. there were the 19 mm and 22 mm open sockets I hand-made.)

(oh yeah, and the 18mm deep socket.)

But I mean, come on. I thought for sure I'd need to buy an air ratchet. My butterfly impact is near-shot.....hmmm...maybe I'll replace that...
