Default Do you lower your cars? .......

I'm thinking of having my 993 lowered. Does anybody know which brand of Lowering Spring offers the best comfort?

Thank You.

if you don't want to go with a Sport suspension, get the stock Euro springs.

I didn't know that the stock Euro springs are lower.

This is a huge topic. You probably need to do some searches on "suspension, M030, M033, H&R" etc.

What springs do you have now--stock US springs? stock Euro springs?
How old are your shocks?
What kind of driving?
How much you want to spend (how much you got?) ?

We definitely need more details.

I have the Euro MO33 setup, and it is pretty stiff, so definitely stay away from the Sport suspension if you're looking for a comfortable ride. My girlfriend used to like riding in the 993 when it had the worn-out stock suspension, but not anymore with the new MO33 setup from Gert. Personally, I like it even though it can be jarring at times, and absolutely LOVE the lowered look.

The spring rate of your old springs and the M033 are essentially the same. What you are probably noticing is the newer shocks (which I assume you got OEM shocks again??).

MO33 are the factory lowering (ROW/ rest of world ride height) that have approx. the same rate as your stock springs and therefore the same ride characteristics while bringing you car down around an inch and filling the wheel wells better.

When & if you change out the springs, you should probably install new Bilstein HD shocks as Porsche used really crappy monroes as OE when your car was produced and they are probably shot. You can retain the stock sway bars as long as you're not stiffening the suspension but might consider new bushings to take any play out.

Gert @ Carnewal (rennlist sponsor) has everything you need to get this done so I suggest looking at his site & doing some searches here to get the info on DIY or a good shop in your area.

Good Luck.

One quick note, the MO33 springs have about the same linear rate as the stock springs, but do allow lowering of the car. The MO30 springs are the progressive rate "sport" springs with a higher spring rate compared to stock and provide a bit more rigid ride compliance, and obviously allow lowering.

What a nice and clean car you got there.

My car is a UK 993 so it must come with Euro springs. Actually I'm very happy with the comfort and handling of my car.
I don't want to spend too much on springs and shocks because I have 18 inch rims on my wish list.

:-)

In that case, you could keep your stock Euro springs and install new shocks (preferably Bilstein HDs). They are threaded to allow you to lower your car.

However, if you are concerned with money, just note that you will be paying for new shocks, installation (assuming you don't do it yourself--see DIY in my signature), possibly cornerbalancing, and an alignment if you choose to lower your car.

Dead shocks will present a harsh ride. Have a close look at your shocks looking for ANY wetness local to the shock bodies.
