Thank you to everyone and especially Viper Bob! I had a collapsed lifter and thought it was on the passenger side exaust so I changed all three of those and I was wrong so I completed the intake side...all three and wouldnt you know it was the last one I pulled and I could tell for sure it was collapsed! What a fun job with the power steering pump taking up so much space!
Thanks again to everyone that said I should do the job myself and thanks to ViperBob...I think he needs a 1-900 number so I can pay by the minute.
In the morning I will be bleeding brakes, flushing the power steering and doing an oil change...since it is raining!
The most difficult aspect of lifter replacements is actually locating which one, or at least which three. Last year, I SWORE I had one collapsed exhaust lifter, turns out, it was an intake. At least I got the correct side of the engine
The intake was eaiser to do since I was nervous about the exaust studs breaking. I cheated on the intake since I was going to remove the power steering pump completely but instead I opened the pump up and that was hair raising with all the little metal fan blades that fell out. The top took approx 4 hrs. The lifter was completely collapsed! When I put it all back together and turned the key started without the tapping sound...I was smiling ear to ear! Wish I would have changed the plugs and wire while I was in there. Thanks again for the help.
