It is three small areas on the left rear quarter that was touched up with matching paint. The problem is that it is not flat and kind of draws your eye to it. Each touch up is about 1/2 to 3/4" long.

Jeff:

See the pics.

Before you start - clean the surface to be worked well so no dirt is present. Also make sure the chip that has been filled is higher than tne paint surface. The touch up paint should have a crown.

1. Take a piece of 2000 grit wet dry sand paper and cut a 2" square piece
2. wrap it around a paint stick
3. Wet the surface with soapy water where the chip has been filled and get the stick as flat as possible. The idea here is to sand down the touch up paint to the level of the paint on the car. Move the sick in a back and forth motion apply light pressure the idea here is slow and smooth.

Buff it out with your products you use by hand. I would try this method first on the wifeys car to get your technique refined. Hope this helps.

Jeff, as Mike suggested, make sure to practice this on something before letting loose on the p-car. This is exactly how I took off my clearcoat (I used a square eraser as sanding block as per advice on autopia). Good luck...

Thanks, Mike.

Before I embark, what are the common "failures"? It would make me sick if I ended up making matters worse, so I want to know where those pitfalls (pun intended) lay.

My mechanic stopped by today while i was working on Blackhorse. I sold him this car last year he has done many upgrades

GT3 brakes - Carbon fiber splitter - Supercharger - PSS9's - Carbon fiber door sills, shifter and ebrake - short shift - HID Upgrade to name a few I cleaned this car up for him over a year ago and it still looks great.

In my case, I obviously sanded too much/too hard. I had the touch-up 90% level with the surrounding paint but couldn't resist getting it perfect.

Here is a diy with some good pointers:

Jeff:

The biggest problem people run into is they press TOO HARD!! SLOW EVEN STROKES. It may look like you are getting nowhere but believe me you are. Just look at the paper after 2 passes you will see black paint on the paper from the touch up paint. Do a couple of spots on a test car this will help you tremendously. Don't be afraid it is not that hard. when mbpa used an eraser that IMHO is to flexible. Any other help you need please ask or PM me and I will give you my phone number and I can walk you through it.

Jeff I saw your 1st post again and i think when you asked about the chips you were probably refering to the two marks side by side. Those are the mounting holes for the hood crest. Is that what you were talking about?

David:

Wish I could, but that is Kentucky Derby weekend here. I am going to the track and some parties. I would rather be doing p-car stuff though. Thanks for the invite. It was cool that you saw Blackhorse the day I got it before I even got to touch it. It looks a little different now doesn't it?

Mike, I was referring to the very last picture. The forward end of the hood (near the lower right of the photo) has a number of white specs, primarily located to the right of the telephone line reflections. I thought those were chips.

To true.....somebody is going to get a good looking car......if it goes for a similar price to "yellow" you are doing us all a favour by increasing the sales prices on our cars!!!!

So you are staying south for horse racing when you could be pushing different horses!!! or is it the parties and not the horses at all!!!!!

Jeff:

Yep compound dust. Sticks like glue.

Dave:

Party Party Party. I wish my car would be done, but it won't. Anyway we use a designated driver so I wouldn't be able to drive it. As far as the price I will sell it for close to Old Yeller money maybe a touch more the mechanicals were over 3500.00. I do fly in to BWI when I go to the Manheim PA sale. I will let you guys know and we can meet up again.
