I have a rental unit listed on Craig's list. This fellow has been emailing me for the last few days.
I think this same fellow buys Porsches.

Thanks for the details on the Property, i am satisfied
and will like to go ahead with the renting process, i
will like you to go ahead and reserve the place for
me. so i will be needing the following so that the
check for payment of the deposit ($3750) can be
processed and posted to you soon.
Name:............
Address:.............
Phone number(cell and land):............
i want the year lease to start on the (June 1st 2006) i
will also want to notify you that i have in
the mean time arrange with an interior decor who will
be handling the purchase of furnitures, entertainment
system and other appliances that will be installed in
the building, they will as well be in charge of moving
down my luggages down to the states.
So the check of ($8500) will be sent over to you which
is a relocation grant by my employer, and all you need
to do is deduct the deposit($3750) and you will
forward the rest to the Decorators so i can have the
place all prepared for my arrival. all other document
will be signed as soon as i arrive.

given that timing, wouldn't there be enough time for the check to clear(as if it would) before forwarding the balance? Usually they try to compress the timeframe so that wouldn't be possible.

Return a mail saying "That amount will cover first and last month's rent, but not the damage deposit and credit check. Please remit an additional $5000 in cash and pay your own decorator."

Or you could refuse him based on cruelty to animals, "also I don't keep pets." reads as abandoning to me.

The thing that I find pathetic about these scams is that they dont even bother to get the language right !
I am English and so know how an Englishman uses his language ! This guy learned from roughly translated comics somewhere !
Still , I guess it makes a change from phoney bank " we need to confirm your account details " scams.

Sad thing is that these people have a success rate !

All the best

What else is sad is I talked to someone who had the FBI almost arrest him for trying to cash one of those phoney cashier's checks for his car he was selling. ...scary stuff

The fellow also sent pictures to further establish his indentity.
