Default Bird Armrest

I'd appreciate information from owners who have this on a 6-speed. Is it useful on long trips? Does it interfere with shifting? Does it get in the way around town?

I've been thinking of getting one of these myself.

C'mon . . . those in the "know".

Have it & love it. It's never interfered w/my shifting, but YMMV. It easily swings out of the way if desired. The storage is handy too.

I like the Bird armrest center consol and have put them in both of my 993 TT's. Doug

I have one with my tiptronic. I shift it manually 99.9 % using the stick. No problems. VERY comfortable....very pricey if you buy it new. I bought a blue one off eBay and dyed it black.

I like mine! No problems shifting around town, nice to have a place to rest my arm while cruising, up and out of the way completely when you're getting down to business.

I think it is great. No interference with shifting, and if you want you can move to up position between the seats. Great for cupholder and storage too.

I love it. It doesn't get in the way at all. Could not imagine driving around w/o anyplace to rest the elbow.

My Bird armrest was blue when I bought it from a friend and fellow Rennlister and I used Suflex black dye and it came out great so don't be afraid to buy one used and dye it to the color you need if you take it apart and do the prep work and clean with a citrus cleaner you can't tell that it didn't come that way when new. Another vote of confidence in the Bird armrest. Never interfered with shifting -- although I would put it up during track events (and it never fell down under hard braking). The factory armrests that Mike located look great as well -- they don't offer the storage of the bird armrest, but they don't occupy the center console area either and they are factory pieces.

If you do opt for the bird armrest and buy it new, I recommend asking them to skip the lock. I never saw the need for it, and think the armrest looks cleaner without the chrome lock ring.

Love it. No problem. Drove 1200 miles in two days after getting the car. Can't imagine not having it.
