Default Confession time.

Alright I bought my car without a ppi. After reading Adrienns book I think I have one of those 1994 engines in a 95 body and vin. Is this bad or good? So far the cars been great. and I been modding away. fingers crossed now. In my defense the book wasn't available when I took the plunge and I only recently found this forum. Besides I had to have this car. Anyone else this crazy? The first question is what I'm most interested with. Thanks and no scolding please.

As long as you are enjoying it, nothing else matters.

I bought mine without a PPI. It took me 4-6 months before I convinced myself that I did not buy a time bomb. Of course, I spent 6 months researching, drivng and reading the 993 board so I felt that I could do a pretty good assesment of the car (believe me I walked away from many). I also insisted that the car was put on a lift.

I would say that the only suprise thus far was the evaporator leak. Apparently, the car was recharged so it worked great during purchase and a couple months later was blowing warm air. Of course, only a PPI would have caught that if they opened up the airbox. There were no obvious signs of a leak.

The last maintenance item that I know of are new plug wires and RMS seal. Both big ticket items (parts and labor respectively) so I will wait since I put $600 into the AC this month. THe RMS will get replaced when I do the clutch.

tj90:

If you have been following BLACKHORSE my RMS was leaking as well. It is a high dollor repair, but it will give you a chance to clean everything off(oil gets everywhere) if your in to doing that sort of thing.

Thanks Mike - I will have to check your posts out. Im definitely into DIY and will attempt on my own.

I just need to give my hands a break - they are finally starting to look good after intensive R&R and gold bond lotion. I want to drive for a few months (including POC track event this weekend).

Dirty, grease in crevice hands only impress you, Robin and a few others on the board - not my wife!

993c2cab:

Both windstops I had were bought by fellow Rennlisters. When we got off the phone I had an email confirming the purchase. Sorry.

tj90:

I just posted engine bay detailing pics. avoid it like the plague until you have to that oil gets on everything.

I had a thorough PPI by a reputable shop and still ended up with a $5k repair a month after purchase. Even stout due diligence isn't always rewarded... enjoy your car and stop worrying!

An early '95 with an early engine can be a good thing. Check Mike J's engine rebuild thread regarding the cam wheel attachment changes between the early '95 models and the following variations. My car is a 7/94 build date and has given no issues since purchasing in September, 2005. I've done a crapload of maintenance as I wanted to get the car to a baseline.

Next is a tranny fluid change with Mobil SHC

I had a PPI and was still faced with an RMS leak that magically appeared one month after I bought the car. The PPI did reveal that the car needed a new clutch but I could tell by driving it. I replaced the RMS when I did the clutch and the car runs great (except worn gearbox issues but thats another story). A PPI is a good thing to have but it's not a guarante of anything. Once you buy it, its yours PPI or not. These cars tend to be reliable but the one issue I would double check on the early model is that steering rack. Mine was replaced by the PO and he paid 2k to have it done.

Otherwise enjoy a fun car!!!

Can someone explain what the early 1995 (94) engine issues are?

What sort of stuff are we talking about?

thanks much,

I also have an early build '95 (8/94), and have had no engine problems, at least after 9 months of ownership and 33K total on the clock.
