Mines spotty at best and I sometimes think it's what I'm parked next that might interfere with the signal. The one place mine always works is in covered parking structures, maybe the signal bounces around enough off hard surfaces to help.

Hope you find a solution for this annoying problem..................ZP44

I am convinced that someone out there knows how to retrofit a 996/997 key fob transmitter/receiver to our 993's...certainly there is a way! How about it you master DIY'ers?

Press the button while holding the remote against the bottom of your chin. This sounds (and looks) a little weird, but it does increase the transmission distance.

And you can double or triple the range if you're wearing a tinfoil hat. Really.

Weird . . . yah . . . but do it while you're driving . . . an extra 2 to 3 hp for sure.

Mine's inconsistant as well. It seems very directional. Works best if I hold down the button for about 1 second, within 15 feet and pointed at the door handle (I think the receiver is in the door near the handle).

mine needs to be against the glass. Really nice, mind as well use the key. I gave up on this fight a long time ago. My Dodge Ram tow vehicle can open the doors from WAY far away.

Hey since we are such a great topic anyone want to beat on the Immobilizer : ) hahahaa

Sorry guys, I haven't done the wire mod on the 993 but I have done that to other alarms. It's too bad this didn't come up when I had the alarm box out. On my truck I have thin coaxial cable going to an antenna mounted behind the rear view mirror. I can unlock/find my truck from 200' away.
The higher end cars prefer to have a real close proximity access receivers simply to preventr code stealing as mentioned before.
I can remember on my Ferrari I had to actually place the unit on the bottom of the front windshield to make it work. Chris

Similar location of the receiver for 993s. It is best to aim them at the windshield, toward the base. There is no receiver in the door.
