A plate of any color is too generous, as a repeat offender should not be on the road at all.

Unbelievable. "You better sober up and/or not drive drunk, or we will give you THE RED PLATE!"

In Virginia I believe there is a proposed law to have a special plate for first time offenders. Also the plate is PINK.. Now that's embarrassing...

I think it's pretty silly. Plenty of married couples share cars and it sure isn't fair for anyone who co-owns a car to have to have that plate on it, when they're not the guilty one. I don't know how tough it is on CA, but a second DUI in VA will land you in the slammer for a mandatory 30 days, if not longer and at least a year license suspension, not to mention insurance in the many thousands of dollars. That deters me a lot more than a license plate I never have to look at when I'm driving. For the folks such punishment doesn't deter, a license plate certainly would be useless. Any proposal a politician likes, I have to immediately be suspicious.

This is just politics in motion; do something that is visable so the public thinks law makers are doing something constructive. It is not the car that was drunk and driving, it was the person If they want to allow these fools to still be able to drive, they should tag their drivers licenses with RFID tags and place strong readers into patrol cars. Additionally they should allow officers the freedom to pull these guys over and do spot checks. Of course there would need to be an additional fees on these drivers to cover the additional cost.

I think tax payer money could be spent wiser. Spend a million dollars trying to get this to become a law or help feed the homeless or people who need help. What next? A plate for check bouncers, hibutual speeders, people who tax evade, or those who filed bankruptcy? How about a plate for those who drive Corvettes that say" IMACHIC" Ok, that was a joke.
