Something interesting with values reported for 1998 model 993 cabrios... The Feb 2006 and May 2006 issues both reported sales of 1998 cabrios with similar options, and indicated the follwing values:
Condition / Feb 2006 / May 2006
Low / $34,486 / $30,300
Good / $38,450 / $34,500
Excellent / $44,213 / $46,150
Seems weird... Low & good condition dropped about $4k in three months, and excellent increased by $2k in the same period!!??
On a related note, how does Excellence determine the addional 10% for low mileage? Sometimes it's mentioned and sometimes not, e.g. in the May 2006 issue, there are two sales of 1996 993, and one notes 43k as low miles, while the other with 18k has no mention of low miles. Does anyone know what threshhold is used for this criteria?
I recently sent a note to Excellence, but have not heard back as of yet.

I noticed the same thing, seems to indicate to me that as time goes on excellent examples of this last air cooled model increase with age and average or good ones continue to depreciate....

Can't exactly help you with 993 prices, but the Excellence numbers seem weird to me, too. Take a look on the top of the 964 board for a thread called "964 prices" which I started.....LOTS of people have put real world input into what they paid, where they purchased, model, condition, options, etc.
Maybe you guys here on the 993 board should do something equivalent to help understand the true trends for the 993 market.

Real-world values would be great for us shoppers. I'm finding prices all over the map, but have noticed a few trends. Cabs are uniformly less than all the coupes. Targas are just a step up on the cabs. C2/C4 seem to be pretty close in value and are next on the ladder. Then comes the C4S which can cover a really broad range of prices, but can start actually *less* than a C2! Finally C2S is top of the heap, with prices starting a good $10k higher than a nice C2 and going up to downright silly prices.
Too bad I really want a C2S! But I'm looking for a C2, and just might go with a C4S if the right car came around.

The actual market value will always be based on demand and as the # of available units decrease, the demand for clean stock/original examples will rise. At least that's what I hope happens............
I personally think a good clean 993 in any form, is a low risk investment that's really fun to drive
