Talking OT?:For you water pumpers out there, recall BARS LEAKS? Here is a bizarre story...

coming out of the naval history vaults:
4/25/58: The USS Nautilus (SSN-571) springs a small
saltwater leak in one of the steam condensers shortly after
leaving Groton, Connecticut to transit to the Pacific for its expedition to
the North Pole. After passing through the Canal and experiencing
a fire (5/4/58), the Nautilus puts into Mare Island Naval
Shipyard, near San Francisco, California, for repairs.

The source of the leak cannot be pinpointed, however, and the ship
proceeds to Seattle,Washington. During the trip to Seattle, the
captain decides to use the same type of additive that is sold for
leaky car radiators (BARS LEAKS) to try to repair the leak in the condenser.
Upon arriving in Seattle in late May or early June, 140 quarts
are purchased and half are poured into the cooling system. The
reactor plant is started and the leak stopped.

Yeah that stuff really works - When I had my 331 SVO Long Block for my Mustang done by Keith Craft Racing, a month down the road coolant was leaking into the combustion chamber as one of my spark plugs was wet and I seemed to be losing collant but it didn't seem to get into the oil; the engine builder told me to put bars leak into the radiator as that is what they do with all their race engines and it solved the the leak- It sure makes a mess of the collant though - turns it all black.
