Default I need keys!

From my recent purchase the PO gave me 1 (one) key. Hey, I'm good with keys but thats pushing it.

Guess I need another switchblade or alternative- and what do you do if the battery goes dead on the one key you have on you when try start the car and deactivate the alarm - call the wife? Guessing so.

Are "valet" keys even of any use on these cars because of the alarm?

So much to learn.

Don't make the mistake like I did and go to the dealer and get a 'VIN' cut key, it's over $100. Order blanks plus remote from Sunset and go to any key place and get one cut. Do a search..lots of info...

It's a good idea to keep a fresh, spare battery for your remote control in your glove-box.

Yeah, and don't forget a small screwdriver so you can actually install said battery!

Mike,

Making a post! How is the new car? I'll be home in a little over a month and can't wait to see it.

My S4 is so modded I literally cannot remember all the things done to it- thought it looks pretty stock.
This car will be quite different- just the essentials and one or two extras ;-)

Ritter,

I just went through this as the 993 I just bought also came with only 1 switch blade key. I also couldn't wait for a GB on the key mod so I went through Departstop (spelling?) out of southern california. Found them on Ebay actually selling just the remote with guts. Cost was $85, but it must be programmed by the dealer, which I will do tomorrow. I was quoted $74 to program. I also got a new key head and a new key blank from Departstop for $35. I just got back about 1/2 hour ago from a locksmith who cut the key for me for $5. All in all, $200 for a complete new key and remote and programming (assuming the dealership sticks to it's quote of $74, we'll see tomorrow).

Anyway, good luck to you!

Default Group buy

There seems to be a decent amount of interest in a group buy for a remote/key combo, see this post also

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...&highlight=key

Not sure what is need to get a group buy started so anyone with past experience want to take charge and get it set up? From the sounds of it we have 10+ interested.

Cheers
CB

You can program the remote yourself, using the instructions in the manual. I did it in only a couple of attempts. Hint: close the door or it will not program..

Wow, that is really good to know. If I do that with the new remote, will I lose the programming of the old remote? Thanks again, I'll give it a shot before going to the dealership.

Hey Dave!

It's awesome! I'm looking forward to you making it back to the south bay. Took it on a canyon run last weekend. Maybe you'll be able to join us next time! Talk to you later,

Mike
