Sounds good!
Similar in principle to my bypassed silencers, I wonder if the internals differ from OEM in the quiet mode...

Believe it! In the UK winter even stainless steel turns to crap in no time at all.
It's interesting to see the US RSR exhausts versus the european ones - they don't even bother to polish the europe ones as the finish will never last!
To put in to perspective, I refitted my exhaust tips 3 weeks ago and "made do" with zinc coated steel bolts. The car has done less than 200 miles since and I had to cut one off and had a really hard time with the other as I replaced them with stainless bolts... Salt, cold and damp is horrid!

Well, I would honestly have to agree that the best sounding 993 I've ever heard had a Ruf exhaust. I have no idea if it was a switchable type like this. I think the idea of having a switch is odd. Hook it up to the varioram actuators or something, but flipping a switch would get old really fast.

This is the type of muffler mod I have been trying to figure out how to duplicate for a lot less money.
I haven't found a source for those simple butterfly valves...all I have found is the hot rod dump valves. I know BMW and I think VW use them on some of their cars for some automatic switching of the exhaust note.
The other part of the Ruf design is it hooks into the vacuum and is triggered by speed or RPM and is all automatic. I am trying to go simple but have it controlled from the cockpit. I simply want to use a cable (on the butterfly from JC Whitney) or a rocker switch (on the speed shop butterfly electric valve) and be able to open it or close it or anywhere inbtween.
I have posted before but anybody have sources for these very OEM looking valves that Ruf uses?
Thanks!

These mufflers are switchable in a few ways. They are hooked up to your spoiler control module and automatically open when the spoiler rises. And they close when it lowers.....pretty cool for those who want the car quiet around town and loud at high speeds. It also comes with an override switch where you can open close them at will. The price from RUF Auto Center in Dallas ia around $2700 and coems with the $600 RUF tips. According to Hans at RUF, these are not very loud. I will stick with my RSR's.

I think it'd be great to be able to control the exhaust note from inside the car. I wonder if this thing could be controlled by a cable instead of vacuum...
