Anyone replace their CR-1 in dash cassette with a CDR-220
Looking to see how it was wired up. The wiring is different going to the CDR-220 than it was going to the CR-1. I know alot of you have replaced the CDR-210 with a CDR-220 and it is plug and play , but that is not the case with the CR-1. Thanks

I believe that is what I did. Plugged right in. cd changer even worked.
(ooops... I guess I updated the later cassette to the 220. My bad.)

ppressle, I don't think the CR-1 was used in 98' (I could be wrong). I have two 96' 993's, one was built in 95' and one in 96', both with cassette players and they are different units. You probably had the later one which is not a CR-1.

Scott, A number of us have replaced our CR1 heads with the Traffic Pro which is very similar to the CDR-220. You might try a search on the Traffic Pro. You will need to install a new connector into to your existing harness.

I don't know for sure, but I do believe that in any CR1 swap you will loose the ability to work with your current CD changer as that also changed when the 210/220 started being used. Thats really the only thing holding me back from doing a CR-1 conversion (either to a CDR 220 or Traffic Pro). The need to replace the CD changer as well and run new cable/wiring for it doesn't seem worth the hassle to me (yet!).

I tried this the other day. The two harnesses plugged right in. However, there are two differences. The first is that the antenna plug is different and does not match up. The second difference was a single wire that was connected seperately from the harness on the CR-1 with no corresponding wire on the CDR220. I have no idea what that wire is for. Mine worked (no radio reception). I ended up sending it back rather than deal with the hassle. I don't listen to discs much anymore as I like my XM better than my tired CD collection.

That wire is for the security system, just leave it off, no harm. You'll also need to take out the metal sleeve, the CDR-210/220 won't need it. Also you'll need to tap into a power source for the illumination as the CR-1 didn't have a dedicated one. I think its slot #6.

Does anyone have any suggestions for findng a wiring harness that will mate up the CR-1 with the CDR-220. The harness Becker sent is a no go. I don't care about connecting to the existing CD changer since I've got the iPod connectors.

Bumping an old thread for a friend.
We're trying to install a CDR220 into his 95 (04/94 production) coupe. CR-1 head unit, hi-fi option. Becker North America sold the unit knowing all this info. The "salesman" seemed a little less than knowledgeable unfortunately. Sad, as they were very helpful when I ordered mine for the 97 a year earlier.
I know this subject has been beaten to death. I also know that the early 95s were different with what is/isn't compatable etc. Thanks in advance for the help.

Tim,
I am struggling through this right now. I found a full cable that goes from the cdr-220 to the early hi-fi amp on ebay a couple of weeks ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
Part # 993-645-413-00 I was able to hook up enough to get it to hear music through the amp into some temp speakers so I am sure it will work properly. I can hear it turn the amp on when the head unit is turned on so the signal line works also.
I overpaid for something that many people probably have being unused in their car right now, but I just want this project behind me. My wire harness was so hacked up by the "professional" installer that I am about to say screw it and sell the whole lot and leave the JVC in the car.
There is a thread on RW that goes over some of the same issues, supposedly there is a adapter for the old cable but the guy at becker I got my code from seemed unsure of what I was asking for.
