Default Nakamichi CD 400 owners- hit or skip? (no pun)

I hate to choose something on the basis of looks but this unit seems to really suit the retro 993 interior and some say its a great performer yet I've read conflicting things.

Does it interface at all with iPod? Thats critical

Plan to match with Focal 165 K2s in doors and Infinity Ref.6412s in back.
No sub for the time being. Do I need an external amp IYO?

TIA.

Mine has been trouble free for two years. It really fits the interior of our cars very well. I have an external amp with the focal speakers. I think the amp is necessary.

I can't speak to the IPOD interface.

I am pleased with my CD400. Yes, there is an AUX input that you can use for a cord to interface the Ipod. I purchased a cord from

great people to do business with. You may also wish to consider the CD500 if you like MP3's. I am not a hi-fi guy, but I think the amp under the passenger seat is a big plus to get the most out of the K2's. You must be talking to Rod at www.caraudioinnovations.com ?? good luck.

Ritter-- just read my own post...when I said good luck, I meant good luck with your installation....It reads like I meant that you may have problems with Rod Birch....which is NOT the case....Rod is TOPS with customer service. You will not find a more helpful person, and knowledgeable, for a 993 installation.

I bought all my equipment from Rod as well. Great guy-great service. Rod offered to have my installer call him if he ran into any problems.

Thanks all. I did a lot of reading here and web searching. I think I'm on the right track.
What type/size amp did you guys go with?

Per Rod's recommendation, I went with an ARC Audio 4 channel amp (no subwoofer). 100 watts/channel. Model #4050.
Have fun and good luck,

I also have the NAK CD400 in my car and am very happy with the unit in terms of looks and performance. I'm not running an external amp with the unit but the built in amp does a good job at driving my Focal 165's. If you decide to go with it, I'm sure you will be quite pleased with your decision.
