Default Brake Pads for '97 C2S

I'm needing to order a set of brake pads for my C2S and based on a number of threads here was going to buy OEM pads. This a street car.
However, when I checked Pelican Parts (RL Sponsor), I find 4 different brands listed as OEM for my car - Textar, Jurid, Pagid and Mintex. The prices range from $30.50-$81.75 for the front and $24.25-$62.75 for the rear.
I'm not worried about the pricing (they're all a lot cheaper than pads I buy for my race car) but what is the difference between these pads?
Are they all pretty much the same?

Go with the Textars, no question.

Rick,

I've tried the Jurids and din't like them. They were soft and dusted a lot.
If I were you, I'd get the OEM Textars, but buy them from a dealer in an OEM box. There IS a difference between Textar pads in their box, and the Textar made for Porsche in an OEM box. The latter is, undoubtedly, more expesive, but I have never had problems with noise or performance with the OEM Textars, and this over the years commuting daily or on the track.

Talking The difference between Pagids and ????

Pagids are expensive for one thing...the Pagid Orange and Black are track pads...they take some hard use to get up to temp where they are most efficient. A set of Pagid Orange for a 993TT car is over $400 dor all four calipers.

Pagids don't have to squeek that much if you mount them with spiders.

My Textars have not squeeeeekkkkeeddd ever...but then I did install the spiders.....dust does not seem to be a big issue either. I did have Jurids on my 951 and I just could not get them to stop squeeeelllllling use to drive me up the wall

Hi Rick

I have to agree with Edward on this, get the original Textars from a Porsche dealer in their Porsche boxes and part numbers, I recently had my specialist fit textars, but not purchased from Porsche and my specialist said that the compounds are not the same, I thought it was banter because I had denied him of his parts 'mark up' but they do feel less efficient than my old OEM's. Maybe they are bedding in but I'm not sure!! They just don't seem to have the same 'bite'.

Jonas at JZM said that Porsche purchased the 'rights' to this particular coumpond
so Textar can sell Pads for 993/964 etc independantly but not made of the same compound...........mmm?

I bought the "OEM" Pagids in the blue box and the car squealed like a ****, even with brand new discs and spiders. The Porsche part is made by Textar and costs three times as much ($180!)--but it's dead silent. If you want to experiment try the "OEM" aftermarket Textar. Those are only about $80 and reportedly are quiet too. Since the front brakes go 30,000 miles (on the street) I just wanted to shut them up and so threw money at the problem. (I also sprung for brand new spiders, which are not cheap).

So that begs the question...are the Textars that are listed as OEM from Pelican Parts the correct ones?

They are "correct" in that they will fit your car. They are made by the same manufacturer as the ones you get at the Porsche dealer. Are they the exact same compound? Probably not but without some kind of chemical analysis who's to say.

This post sparked my interest--seems Pelican lists both oem Textars and Porsche OEM Textars at considerably different prices. I am in the same boat--anybody know how much difference you can expect?
