Unhappy HELP! cab top won't open after changing my shifter & handbrake

I just installed a new MY'02 alu/leather shifter and handbrake from Gert . . . and now my top won't open. So . . . obviously . . . I must have done something real bonehead to a sensor of some sort, as the top is not supposed to open w/o the car being turned off, ingition switched to the position just before start, and the parking brake engaged. Does anyone have some quick advice about how to correct whatever the "H" I did? I'd sure appreciate it . . . the sun is shinning.

Scott,

There is a metal tab at the back of the brake lever assembly that must make contact with a metal plate that is in the actual brake lever. You may need to get the rear console tray out to see and confirm that they are in fact making contact and closing the circuit. This is how the Top ECU knows that the hand brake is on and allows for the top to work. You may have knocked it loose when replacing the lever.

If the "Parking Brake" light does not come on when you pull the handle up cabrio 993 is correct that the metal tab is not making contact with the sensor. I had the same problem on Old Yeller.

Thanks cabrio & Mike -- time to get back in there I guess.

Hopefully I can find the right things (sensor & metal tab) in there . . . anyone got a pic?

Follow the black wire running inside the console towards the rear. This is for that sensor which mounts at the back of the bracket. Don't toe me you can't find it....

The only thing that I wasn't clear on after reading this, and the related links-
Is the parking brake light functioning, and the sensor unclipped mutually exclusive (i.e., can the sensor be unclipped, but the p-brake light still functions?).
thanks!
