Question Question re: cracked protective rubber boot on clutch master cylinder

I recently installed a new aluminum floorboard to replace the original, factory wooden one. While in there, I noticed that the protective rubber boot for the piston assembly on the clutch master cylinder was cracked. Is this a big deal? Should I run . . . not walk to get it fixed? Do you have to replace the entire cylinder, or is it possible just to replace the boot?

Thanks,

Scott

I tried to buy one to replace mine (cracked too) but I was told they don't sell it as one item. Based on Robin's diy, it's very common.

Mine is cracked also. I made sure that the piston rod was clean and sprayed a bit of lube on it. Then I rotated the boot so that the crack faced down. The entire area around my pedal cluster was very clean, so I'm not worried about it for now.

Mine cracked too.

Taking the board up and cleaning the cylinder is just a job to add on to the 12k / annual maintainence from now on I think.

Scott,

I had the same problem - see thread here.

I resolved it by buying a different part at AutoParts Plus and scavenging the boot off of it. No problems since.

Post on resolution is here. Part was a Raybestos brand - PG Plus CSK437 (clutch slave kit). CDN$19

Mine is also split. Will do a search for this Raybestos part and see who sells here in California. Great fix! Hope I can find it!

Guys,

If you can't find it where you live, I'm sure I can still get them here and mail you the boot (or the whole thing but the boot is light so postage would be less).

Marc
p.s. I went through about 2 dozen cylinders that day and that was the best fit.
