Default Odometer failure

Odometer has failed on my S....any recommendation on what culprit might be the best to check out first?

Thanks in advance...

I went through this in the past year, as well as a few others IIRC. Basically, there is a white gear inside the speedo that is prone to failure. It drives your odometer. You can search prior posts on this and it is well documented. There is a guy in Chesapeake,VA who sells a new improved version of the gear for ~$25.00. Or you can send it to Palo Alto Speedo for repair for somewhere in the neighborhood of $200.00+.

Hope this helps,

Just follow the P-Car thread and go very slowly. You'll have it repaired in a couple of hours. Removing the tabs to open it up is the hardest part.

Very common particularly in the hot humid climate where I live. Had the gear (from Jeff at Odometer Gears LTD; highly recommended) replaced on both cars, works fine!

Took about a hour to remove and reinstall the speedometer and replace the gear. Most of that time (about 40 minutes) was spent carefully removing the trim ring to avoid scratches. $29 including shipping.

Congrats Robert. Nice to see those dials moving again isn't it? I was really worried the first time I cracked my speedo open. I just imagined springs and gears flying everywhere. (Based on a bad experience trying to "repair" a fishing reel when I was about 10 years old.) Glad to see people getting better results out of this r&r.
