Is my door jamb decal right about tire pressures?

I have 18" Pirelli P-zeros, 235 upfront and 285 in the back. Door jamb decal says 36/44psi front and back, respectively. Last night I had a nail removed from a relatively new rear tire. Tire guy said the tire looked shot and that 44psi was way overfilling it. Center of the tread was definitely more worn than the rest. But if anything, I had been running with the tire underfilled because of that very slow nail leak that took me a few mos. to notice and do something about. I haven't put a lot of miles on the 993 recently. Another guy at the shop later told me that 44psi was fine for that tire on my 993 and I should expect at least 8k miles out of it. I'll be overjoyed to get 7k.

Rick,
FWIW, I am running 34 Front & 36 Rear cold psi on the same size tires you have. This puts me at around 42F 44R after hot laps on the track & also gives a good ride/handling feel on the street.

Ok, that's it! I'm taking them to 34/36 when I get home tonight....just so it can be right while it sits the garage, waiting for the snow to melt

As you can tell from the many threads, it seems the tire pressure debate has been going on for years. My suggestion is to experiment a bit & see what works best for you (within a safe/reasonable pressure range). All depends on personal preference & how you use the car. Or just ask someone whose opinions you trust & respect & go w/ that.
Just my 2 cents.

Like many here said, what the door sticker says , its the recommended pressure. What is commonly accepted here is that the rear 44 psi is overkill.
I normally run 34 front and 36 rear COLD on the street tires in the summer and 36 front ,38 rear COLD in the winter. While on the track I go down to 25psi cold on my MPSC's, I would not go lower than the pressures I posted above for the street , simply because there is not any chance that I'm going to put any meaningful heat on them. I have found that anywhere from 36-39 PSI HOT on the track on street tires its kind of the sweet spot in handling, so with that is mind my pressures above. Finally one has to think about potholes, too low and you may bust a tire...
