Default Fitting HD's

Guys....advice please.....(1) Viperbob has some good deals on B HD's and since I need to do sometime in the not to distant future can you tell me if this is an eazeish job for a novice wrench hand.....I will install and then go to AGS for alignment......what special tools are recommended other than a spring compressor......I have looked at Robin's p-car site and it looks easy enough, but then everythiung does when you read it....doing it can be a different matter.....anybody with experience want to chime in?
(2) I will change back to my 18 inch tire/wheel combo for the spring in about 8-9 weeks....am I better waiting to do install of HDs and alignment until I put the 18s on....or does it really not matter?

Thanks

David,

There is no spring compressor required for the swap. It is pretty easy, with just a couple of special tools needed. If you want to call me, I can go over some of these as well as give a couple of tips on setting ride height, etc..

As far as the wheels and tires, you can get it done with the 17s now and just put on your 18s in spring.

David,
Would love to help!

I have the complete Bilstein & M030 setup sitting in my garage. My intent was to install in in December.....

I will do the install myself and will use some of the ride height measurements found here and on Carnewal's site. As long as the new suspension is installed correctly and within reasonable camber settings, a trip to the nearest shop for a proper alignment is fine.

I intend to install the new slave & hose this weekend and will let you know how smoothly it goes. You're next

Andreas

No spring compressors needed? Is this because the M030 coils are so short? This is what I suspected, given the fact that people are always worried about the coils ability to move freely while the car is lifted. VB, I too will likely do the purchase/install. Does your kit come with any type of instruction or is that left to RL, P-car.com, and the phone?

I have most of a write up that I'll finish with items specific to the Hds and M030 spring and sway bars. I have one for the PSS9s. I'll do the HDs similar with the "how" and "where" to set the springs, etc...

Shops will charge anywhere from $400-(hold on)$1800. Yes I heard of a place that was going to charge this much for the install. I guess they found it easier to remove the motor to get at those upper nuts on the rear mounts... You will also need an alignment when all is said and done...

I'll take pics and try to finish up the tip sheet by Monday.... I'm on the way out soon for the Cars for the Cure event.

Talking Viper Bob...keeper of truth. I only wish that my initial..

PSS9 TRG sway bar installation had been done according to to Bob's instructions. As a result of a poor initial installation (The drop link connectors that go on to the PSS 9 shock body were installed too far up on the shock...resulting in compromised clearence under severe suspension compression that one can see at the track), the drop links crashed into the rear toe links...replaced the stock with ERP + labor...going on today. I expect to see $300 to $400 in labor + $300 or so for parts. Damn...unnecesary expense that could have been prevented.

Also, be aware that setting the ride height by just measuring the threads on each shock won't make the car properly corner balanced.

I had my car corner balanced after installing HD's with H&R springs and the difference in the number of threads that are showing on the left front shock vs the right front shock is about 1/2 inch.

So, counting the number of threads on each shock will give you a very close approximation on ride height, but before you align the car, take it to a competent shop to do a corner balance. Then do the alignment.
