Default No SAI Ports?

I was reading Adrian's book last night (great by the way), and I believe I do not have the SAI ports on my car. I have a 2/94 build, and according to Adrian Porsche did not start the MY95 spec USA builds until 8/94. So that means I have a 1994 spec car, that has a MY95 designation by Porsche. Apparently they did this to get some cars to the US early.

Looking at my engine & engine code, it's definitely different from the later '95's I have seen. So is it possible I have no SAI on my car, if so 1 less thing to deal with!

Brian,
I hope you can confirm this for me. Unfortunately nobody with a M718 993 (1994 model with 1995 VIN for the USA only) would respond to my request on this matter.
Porsche AG told me that these cars were delivered with ROW engines without SAI, but I have a nagging doubt about this.
All you have to do is to remove the engine bay electrical panel and see if you have the relay installed and the pump itself is fairly obvious.
Update: Somebody just sent me a message via my website saying that their M718 993 is fitted with SAI. Sorry Brian.
Ciao,
Adrian.

Adrian, I am somewhat of a novice & newbie at this (just got my 993 in August). I will remove the electrical panel & take a picture for you. I can either post it here or email it to you, just let me know. If you have other questions about my car (since it's an early example), I'll be happy to provide whatever info I can.

Thanks for the great Book!

Thanks Brian, but I am now 996ing. If a second edition is ever asked for I will certainly get in touch because I do have some fine detail gaps to possibly fill because I was unable to find a M718 owner before. Mind you I was happy finding a M150 version which is even rarer.
Ciao,
Adrian.

When you remove the electrical panel, you may see a BIG fuse with 40 on it. This is for the SAI motor if it is there...

Gee, I had no idea that some of our cars came without SAI. You learn something every day!

Hmmm, any idea how much the SAI motor weighs, and how difficult it would be theoretically to remove it?

Bill, what do you mean no engine mounted oil filter? Where else would it be, I'm confused (haven't done my 1st DIY oil change yet, had my 1st one done w/ clutch & flywheel)?

We have 2 oil filters: a big tank mounted filter (accessed thru the right rear wheel well, and a smaller engine-mounted oil filter, accessed from below the car near the middle just fore of the engine case.

So then I may only have 1 filter? If that's the case I need to check my paperwork, I think I paid for 2 filters when the oil was changed. I'll have to crawl under the car at home tonight & check things out.

Thanks guys!

Brian,
You have 2 oil filters. I don't know what Bill is talking about, but it does not apply to the standard 993 range of engines for any market.
Ciao,
Adrian.

Ciao,

Not true Adrian, I've seen several. I asked the local shop owner when I saw the first one, he conformed that he has run across a few of them. All early builds.

I am sorry Bill, but you would have to provide some documentation to support this claim. I would require some evidence that PCNA delivered 993s into the US market (excluding race cars) without the engine oil filter fitted.
I do not doubt that you have possibly seen them, but the claim is not supported by the Porsche 993 parts catalogue nor the 993 workshop manual.
Local modifications is possible, and I have heard about this modification in some 993 based racing cars.
Even the oil lubrication diagram shows the two oil filters.
The parts catalogue provides an engine oil filter part number for model year 1994 which was changed for model year 1995 for both the ROW and US markets without exceptions or notes.
Ciao,
Adrian.

PS: On the racing engine side. The engine mounted oil filter is removed if the hydraulic lifters are replaced with the mechanical system ala 964.

Ok guys, here's my fuse box & engine. I see the 40W fuse, is that for SAI?

Tell me what I have. If you can't tell from the pics, I'll ask my wrench next time I go in.
