I created a little spread sheet that calculates the diameter of the tires for different section widths, aspect ratios and wheel diameters. It is really simple...

Also, the Tirerack has specs for all of their tires so you can see the diameter and revs per mile.

Their recomendations are very conservative and when you call, the person who is the "sales advisor" will just read the recomendations in front of him/her. I used to work with a guy who is very experienced but he got promoted. The rest seem like kids...ha, at 50 years old, lots of people seems like kids!!!

Cheers

More information would be helpful. What size (width) are the wheels, and how much wiggle room do you have next to the suspension and inside the fender? What wheelwell are you trying to fit them into? Is the car stock, or lowered? Is 215/55 the stock tire size? If this is going on, say, a 1985 Caprice Classic, you can almost fit monster mudders in those wheelwells. If it's going on a Nissan 200SX, you have about 3mm of clearance stock, so wider isn't going to work.
