iPod Integration - Cheap!

Is the sound signal strength through the dock connecter stronger than thru the headphone jack? I know I have to crank up the volume on the radio to get good sound out of the ipod. Wonder if, when using the dock connector, you don't need to crank up the volume on the head unit..........

my only question is this, it seems with this cable assy, which is the one i'm considering using, it would deliver 12v straight to the iPod. now doesn't the ipod charge off of WAY less than 12v? if you look at all the belkin adapters and stuff, they have a small part of the packaging, resembling a step-down transformer.. any thoughts?

Ipod's, when charged through the dock, can take either 5V via the USB portion, or 12V from what would be the firewire port (I have an Ipod Nano and even though it does not have the Firewire port, charges off the 12V rail in the car just fine).

While everyone is serching for solutions to use an ipod, the best solution is right in your head unit, if you have a recent aftermarket unit. most read mp3 and wma format cd's, which is what I do. you can store about 250 songs on 1 CD! and with much better sound quality than provided by RCA jacks. without cluttering up my interior or making a hassle. just a suggestion.

I was disappointed to have to spend the money until I turned the thing on. The CDR-210 is a terrible car stereo. I was amazed at the sound out of the new system, whether it was CD or FM/AM, all the sounds were so much better.
Go find a good HU, you won't be disappointed.

all you do is pop your cd in, and go to windows media player. from there hit rip, and the entire cd will be in your my music folder, then once you have a library of folders on your hard disk, burn them all to a cd in folders, then yo can easily navagate it on your head unit.

since there seems to be a big demand for the Becker CDR-220 HU's, maybe I'll just sell mine and buy a nice iPod compatible HU with the money. After all, I'm already planning on upgrading the whole system, HU, amp, speakers, it's not likely that I will ever want to put the stock HU back in, is there? Hmm.. do I have any offers?

I have a pioneer head unit and the pioneer iPod module. I have drilled a hole in the back of the glove box and fed the cable into that and just leave the ipod in the glove box. I can control the iPod from the head unit and it's all out of sight, great and very tidy.
My head unit also plays MP3 CDs but frankly the iPod has so much on it that I like to listen to it would just take up too many CDs. The iPod is very neat and I don't have the side pockets full of CDs.

Many have suggested an iPod compatible HU. I just installed the alpine CDA 9857 and couldn't be happier. I also agree with the earlier comment about the sound quality of the CDR-210. It is plain terrible compared to the new unit. Honestly I wouldn't have thought there would be such a difference.
I now need to find someplace to hide my iPod. Does anyone have suggestions? I have need to see it since the HU controls and displays it all...
Thanks,
Trey
