last i heard Porsche Cars NA is planning on bringing out 2 caymans for us. i didn't officially organize this drive so I'm not going to make the call whether or not to cancel it. i'm sure that some will not show up but i know of several that are still going. i'll personally be a game time decision. a little mist and i'll be there. if it's pouring, i'll stay in bed

We live 5 minutes away as well. Although I washed the car today, I will probably drive down at 8 to see who shows.

Personally, I kind of enjoy driving in the wet. The C4S wheel drive system works beautifully with a little rain thrown into the mix!

Was raining pretty good at my house at 7:00, so I turned over and went back to sleep.

I just came back...it was a lot of fun as always.

I got to Starbucks Around 8:00am and the rain had stopped. There were about 12 cars in all at the end. Lizard showed up on his new 996 TT (Time to change your Avatar now). There was also someone from Porsche NA with one of the demo Caymans that came along. also a 928, a 968, Mark Cohen's 993 Targa, Les' 993 C2S, Mark's 3.2 911, and a couple of 996's. There was also a Lotus Elise, a Ferrari 328 and a Mazda Miata with a Turbo conversion.

The roads were wet and there was the ocassional sprinkle here or there. It was a lot of fun to drive these cars at the limit in the wet on those tight mountain roads. Also, there was barely anyone on the roads once we got there so with no traffic, no bikes or slow SUV's around.

Can't wait for the next one...

It was a lot of fun, even if the group got smaller as we went along. One thing we mentioned was an email mailing list of people for the next time (in case someone were to miss a forum announcement). I don't know that anyone is keeping an official list, but for any future drives you can reach through Rennlist or at gravedgr@bellsouth.net.

Gravedgr,

You were smart to take you wife along. ...Mark and I had to turn back at the top of the mountain.

You went on 180 and then back on 52?

I don't know who keeps track of the mailing list...but add me to it: scoppola@netser.net

Default What a Blast!

What a Hoot! The road was just wet enough to get the cars sliding nice and predictably. My C4S's 4-wheel drive was a nice asset in these wet conditions. A good day to safely explore the envelope on the three uphill lanes of 19/129. Although there was a little early morning fog at the top of the mountain on 19, and the later half of 180, the rest of the day was nice and clear. The rain contributed to very little traffic, so we were able to maintain a fairly brisk pace most of the day. Nice lunch in Blairsville. That little Lotus Elise of Mick's (sp?) looked like a race car with the dark green/black wheel combo....also "went" like one! We REALLY need to do this more often.

Yeah, the Elise sure looked like a fast and fun little car. He uses it as a daily driver too. I am not sure I would do that since it seemed kindda cramp in there...but I wouldn't mind having one for the weekends!

She goes on all my drives and is almost as big a car nut as I am. In fact, she pushed me to get the 996 when I was having second thoughts. The previous weekend we stopped by the DE event and she made the comment that we needed to get an older M3 for a weekend track car. What a woman!!!

I don't recall the roads on the route - we don't usually go that way, and I was too busy feeling out the car's limits to pay attention to much other than the pavement.

I'll put your address in my email. Les - I have your card, is that a personal or work email?

Damn--woke up at 6:15AM and it looked like a turd outside so I didn't go...how in the world did Porsche end up bringing demo cars? The rest of Feb sucks for me schedule wise, but the last weekend in Feb or early March would be a great one to try to organize another one...

An e-mail listserv might not be a bad idea for future drives either Post pics if anyone has any!
