Smile For fun,,Justify

As the title suggests, let's here some of the justifications, weather to yourself or others, for the mods that you do to your vehicle. Curious more than anything else.

I do mods for me. Some people may not like what I do, but it's not their car now is it

for the rs clutch and lwf it was pretty easy: i was already in there (valve job), i needed a new clutch (car had 72k miles and the little circular pin that holds the assembly was half out and broken; sorry, but i don't know the real name of that pin), and it was actually cheaper than stock!

for HIDs: i thought it would be cool to do the conversion myself (i am not a car DIYer by nature), it was not too expensive (<$300, although now that i am into replacing the bulbs it is begining to cost more) and i thought better visibility would be a good thing.

for turbo-s ducts: well, that one i might take back, or at least purchase higher quality ducts (mashaw). that one i did because i thought the existing fogs were worthless (however the newer ones are even more worthless :-( ) and i liked the look of the ducts instead of those silly little running lights...but like i said, that one i would do differently.

"Honey...see? I lowered the car so it would be a lot easier for you to get in and out."

"Dear...the metal bar in the trunk (strut brace) is so I can hang your clothes when I go to pick them up at the laundrymat."

Off course she doesn't buy any of it, but I always make her smile with my "justifications".

I'm the king of the rationalizers... I convinced myself that I need to change from Waldo to Rufus... for very little apparent reason. My wife simply rolls her eyes.

Options on the car when new: got a $2500 discount on the base price, and had to spend the extra money to keep the sales guy happy.
Suspension: Shocks were shot, and we were already "in there". Safety issue.
Clear bra: front end respray every 100K instead of 50K. Saves my back doing touch up. No more chiropractor visits.
HID: same $ as, and works well with, a new pair of glasses. Saved $ on group buy and with DIY (Thanks Devek)
Top end at 120K: small leak at timing chain cover. The rest would have been necessary in another 20-30K. Another "while we are in there".
LWF/RS clutch: already in there with top end rebuild. Labor was absolutely free.
Guard LSD: original wore out, so counts as maintenance, not mod. Safety issue. Group buy makes it affordable. Sort of. I will have an oil change done at the same time, so installation will be "while we are in there".
Upsized 235/295 Michelin PS2. Worth the extra 5 cents a mile. Safety issue.
Garmin Nüvi 350 GPS: not lost any more. Saves gas, time, buying maps. Maybe my marriage. Installed it myself, so saved.
All other mods: because I can't think of another home for my discretionary income, and because I already saved on the above "while we are in there".

Whatever implausible or semi-plausible rationalization I can come up with. Safety always works if it's truely safety related (she's driven the car and comes to the track often enough to tell real from imagined). I have a very tolerant and understanding wife.

Largely have been in areas of shocks/springs/sway bars (for better handling - found stock suspension too soft) and adding brake cooling ducts (to cut down on brake fluid boiling on the track).

("Here"? "Weather"?? Jeez - where did you go to school????)

My wife has gotten way to wise about my cars over the years and I ran out of justifications a long time ago. So I'm down to hey she knows were I am and what I spend the money on.
