tx to all. I am located in Dubai. When I bought the car, that was the only option and I really wanted one. Because of the limited no. I did not have a choice. Ive been wanting to convert it for years, but also thought it was too complicated.
Tx for the OBC explanation.... Ziad.

Joe,

You mean to say that the tech from the 993 tt comes with a boost gauge?

A quick search through PET shows the main differences being (there might be some others but I didn't notice them),

speedometer
tachometer
Passenger Compartment Wiring Harness
Engine Wiring Harness
Carpet
Engine Undertray (should be removed anyway)
Gearshift lever and everything associated with that
Airduct ontop of the oil cooler fan.
a sleeve on an oil line
driveshafts
pedal assembly (clutch master cylinder & hydraulic lines)
Pedal floor board
accelerator cable

It looks like a fun project to tackle yourself but any other way and the labor charges would probably be excessive. You also don't absolutely need to change all of the above parts but I'm sure your mechanic or dealer wouldn't do it any other way. What is the cost spread between a tiptronic and 6-speed? It might be possible to do the swap on the cheap but probably not for less than just buying your exact car (mileage, everything) with an original 6-speed and selling your tip.

There is a Rennlister locally that has a Tip Targa with a supercharger. He also has in his possession a highly modified 6 speed tranny. I researched and there is a LOT to do. You need a modified ECU, change rear axles, install a complete clutch hydraulic system (spell nightmare), and a few other items like clutch pedal, brake pedal, etc. All in all, an expensive proposition.

I helped a friend do this on a VW jetta, and I would never try to do it without having a complete parts car. If you can find a wrecked 6-speed 993 you'll be in great shape, but otherwise the parts cost from the dealer would be outrageous.

Hi Kaza,

I have mine converted from a tip to manuel. Apparently it was done when the tip box needed to rebuild and so happen three is 964 5 sp box avalible at a very attractive price. And the labour that the shop quoted me was acceptable to me. So I went for it and I must say that with a 5sp only and the car is already miles miles ahead of the game. the tip is convenient but nothing substitute the fun factor of manuel. I am in a look out for a G50/21 though.....

It's not a particulary difficult job, pretty straight foward, you will need the tranny, with mounting base, press plate/flywheel combo, clutch fork, slave cylinder, etc.,pedals from a manual 993 with the master cylinder installed, axles, you will need steelbraided hose,(I use -4 for these) for plumbing the master with the slave, you won't need to change the dme,I might miss something else,I know I have done this before.,cheers,Sonny.

Kaza, great looking car! I can see why you want to keep it, I haven't seen many C4S in red.
