Inspired by Mike's elegant solution and wanting to achieve positive lock between the jacks and the car, this was my solution:

Cheers!

Uh, oh !! Please don't do that ... that mail comes to me as Register Secretary.

What Ken (my new assistant) recommended is available commercially in UK from Design 911 and most other Porsche accessory people who advertise in Porsche Post. It is designed to fit only hobbyist grade jacks, will not go on an AC Hydraulics 'real' jack for instance ... they also can appear to be in place only to pop out when you start jacking. So I don't recommend them, and I'll give one away to the first personal caller (by arrangement), as a measure of my endorsement.

HTH, cheers, Maurice

Hi Maurice,

What is an AC Hydraulics "real" jack and what would you call a hobbyist grade jack? Given how infrequently, hopefully, I need to use jacks I have an RAC two tonne hydraulic jack. Is this classed as cheapo hobbyist or not?

Cheers,

David

Hi David,

I got a jacking plate from Type911 in Hainault Essex which fits on the plate of my trolley jack (Part No 91172101202). Maybe this will be of use.

Take care,

Steve.

Hi again David,

I maybe should have said that the underside of the plate is counter-bored and therefore locates firmly into the slight rim on the plate of the trolley jack's plate, so it becomes securely "fixed" to the jack. The peg on the top fits into the hole in the car's jacking points. There's also a rubber pad to prevent metal to metal contact.

I have been happy with mine.

Take care,

Steve.

Heehee... probably ! I wrote an article in Jan 05 PP saying what a pile of unsafe rubbish my Halfraud's 'hobbyist' jack was, and how, after a long search, I had acquired a rebadged AC jack. Which, quite frankly, I would trust my life to, whereas I had several reasons not to be universal in this sentiment ...

Just bought an AC Hydraulics DK20 jack and flat topped jack stands from ASE. Haven't had a chance to use them yet but they seem very solidly built. To lower the DK20, you need to pull the handle out and turn it. If you let go of the handle, the jack stops in place. Nice feature. ASE price inlcudes shipping, or at least it did.

Thanks again. I think I'll stick with the hobbyist crap as I'm talking once in a blue moon here. I know the value of axle stands....

Cheers,

David

These hold the jack stands locked to the car and work great.

I also did a variation for the jack itself....got a little more fancy..

Mike, can you post any drawings? How is the machined block attached the U section? And what's the black **** for?
