I got mine repaired like the one on the silver picture on this thread. I think I paid around $100 for the weld. Then I just used Porsche L908 Grand Prix white touch up paint and painted the weld. I looks very good and you wouldn't know it was repaired unless I point it out.
I understand that to do it "Concours", you have to remove the front fender as the check strap base needs to be accessed from behind the door frame. If that's what Devek did for $400, you got a great deal. Most shops charge $800 - $1000 to do it the "proper" way.

Has anyone done the Pelican reinforcement on a 993? I tried it and it didn't work. Pelican themselves have no experience of doing it on 993s, so they suggested I ask here to see if anyone did it.

I remember someone stating that this repair can be done through the kick panel area. I have yet to muck about in that area on my car, so I'm not sure if there is indeed an access hole/panel.

Blackforest in San Diego will do it for $330.00. They weld 2 beads one on top and one on bottom and touch up the paint. Just in case anyone else in San Diego needs it done. Im curious if anyone can validate if it is accessible from the rear via the kick panel. I also read that on one of these posts but I dont think anyone knew for sure

well he had it done. Rlister IRUSS posted it on 6--8-07. went thu the kick panel used a mirror he said/
i forgot where he got it done cause when he told me i couldnt find the place, some where in SAC.

I noticed a hint of cliking last night...so I wanna fix it before it gets worse. My indie. told me that the delaer fixes that. I called thier body shop, and surprisingly, the guy knew what I was talking about....
He said, they remove the door, weld fr the inside, touch up paint fr the outside,...should take around 3 hours. cost around $225
Does that sound right for a PROPER fix. I dont want a "touch up" job.

My door was clicking. I did the fix from p-car. Clicking has stopped. Cost $0.
I was going to do the Pelican retrofit, but discovered it cannot be done on the 993. Pelican was wonderful and refunded me the cost of the unusable parts - and changed its website so that it no longer appears the retrofit can be done on 993s.

I can't imagine any shop removing and replacing the front fender for less than $1,000 or so as the fenders are glued on with some pretty powerful stuff and are difficult to realign on installation. So what exactly are Devek and others that say they are doing a concours repair doing?

$47.50 was what it cost me to have it MIG welded top and bottom. Does not look as pretty but problem solved and I'll get it paint matched when I get a new tail and have the body shop paint that.

Door Strap repair in San Diego
A buddy of mine bought a 993 Targa from Automotive Excellence in San Diego (just North of the 5 and 805 split). He had the strap click common to many of our cars. They took it to a boady shop a few blocks from their shop and had it welded from the front, then had the paint touched up. It really came out looking great. I need to take mine over as well. They told me the cost would be about $50. The owner is a younger German guy, Hans or Franz. Seems to know his stuff. Best of luck. Phil

Check Strap Update
Yuk. I need the dreaded repair. Post is moving on the fender side of strap. I'd really like to have the repair done from behind the post but it's unclear to me if that can be done without removing the fender? Anyone had the work done where the shop is able to access the back of the door jam without removing the fender?
