Unhappy RS Rear Spoiler Mounting Issue....

I was hoping someone on the board can shed some light on an issue I am having with regards to mounting my spoiler.

I have a used OEM RS rear spoiler that I purchased from a shop in the UK. It is missing the bolts and washers to mount it to the rear deck. My local dealer did not have the bolts in stock and would have to order them. I thought that I may try buying the metric bolts from the hardware store since the size seems to be standard. I purchased (4) M5x16 and (4) M4x16 bolts. They did not have M4x14 as called out by the PET schematic. The problem is that they do not fit. It appears that the thread size is different. I even tried a standard 10-24 x 3/4, which appear to have a slightly more coarse thread, but no luck.

Does the OEM bolt/screw have a different threading than what is available off the shelf? Also, is the OEM one a self tapper or something like that? The current bolts I have fit tight and can be forced, but I didn't want to do that and risk screwing it all up.https://rennlist.com/forums/newthrea...ewthread&f=58#
Confused

Any suggestions?

Steve

If the PET calls for an M4X14, I believe that means 4mm diameter bolt with 14 threads/unit length(inches??). The M5x16 and M4X16 won't work. A 10-24 has 24 threads/inch screw pitch.

Keep looking for the M4x14s. Good luck.

Thanks ColtJ. The PET calls for (4) M5x16 and (4) M4x14. I do have the M5x16, but they don't fit, with finger force anyway....

No suggestions? Any of you guys with the factory rear spoilers that can shed light on the screws? Monique?

M4 x 14 = 4mm diameter with 14mm length. Thread pitch is usually specified separately.

Almost any M4x14 should work.

Dude, Bill you are the man! That is exactly what I needed to see!

The thread pitch is way different than a standard M5x16 with a .8 pitch. Your screws appear to be more coarse with the addition of the self tapping notch. Funny that your kit comes with (8) M5x15 when the PET says (4)M5x16 and (4)M4x14. They must have changed it.

You wouldn't happen to have a part number for that screw would ya? I'm thinking it is different than what is on the PET. A local dealer may have that in stock. The spec'd one is only in Germany according to my dealer.

I can't thank you enough for taking the trouble to take pictures and all!

Thanks!!

Steve

Unfortunately I discared the plastic bag and label,

pitch is 1.25

it's close to a US #10x.5 self tapper
