The entire advert it taken from the description that was told to me via the email from the seller of my car to me. Who knows if it's true....but this is what I was told. I did not type "Proven to add 8hp." As that would be a lie.

On some cars (with restrictive intake systems) an intake can def. build 8hp when tuned correctly, but stand alone i doubt it's possible. My car has a chip that has been mapped to the intake and exhaust....so perhaps in this case the intake really does add 8hp...who knows....not making any cement claims.

No, on OTHER cars....like on my STi, and 2.5 RS...they both had extremeley restrictive intakes from the factory. Dunno about the Porsche...again, I am simply reitterating what the seller told me when I bought the car.

No, but two 'rights' made an airplane

Three rights make a left... ok, now I will shutup...

What I need to do is instrument a pair of driveshafts with load cells and get some real dynamic power readings with all of the bolt on 'stuff' the aftermarket has to offer... That would be a cool project..

I think the 20x more airflow claim is laughable, at best. Our motors are designed to ingest and expel a certain volume of air. Removing 97% of an airbox lid does not automatically mean the engine will ingest more air.

It's no different than claiming 20x more food intake if I remove my head!

Essentially - 20x more airflow = WTF.

I'm pretty sure it was Bruce Andersen (in the Tech section of this month's Excellence) who just wrote that 993 airboxes are considered restrictive and benefit by being cut open, a la Fabspeed / Cup design. I'm not saying *I* believe it, but he does.

but i also read here recently that opening up the lid raises the intake temperature of the air...

BTW for the folks in California, the Fabspeed 'cover' doesn't have a CARB sticker - you might run into probs getting your 993 smogged with it installed.
