Default A nice aftermarket steering wheel

for a 993 would be, in my opinion, a three spoke resembling some of the classic Momo steering wheels that many of us, I'm sure, put in our past p-cars (I had a Momo of one variety or another in my 73E and a Momo in each of the 7 2002's I owned over the years. Once I put it in my first (70) 2002, I knew I'd always have one like it in any sports car I were to own. The new wheel would have to have the airbag nicely incorporated into the design of course, or I'd go about and buy a Momo wheel right now.

I wish a new aftermarket airbag steering wheel design would be offered. Seems like Audi had a few great looking a/b steering wheels a few years back. I do like the '96 Porsche wheel pretty good along with TechArts and the RUF steering wheels BUT I just know there is a better looking design waiting to be manufactured.

I've written to MOMO. I'm sure my letter caused meetings to take place over the Christmas holiday weekends at their corporate headquarters so I expect to hear from them tomorrow.

NOT!

My bet is that the aftermarket wants absolutely nothing to do with airbags, period. The R&D and liability would be just too great, especially given that they are making wheels to fit how many different types of makes and models?!! It's an easy decision on their part *Not* to make a/b wheels if they can already make "easy" money on a few generic-fit wheel designs then design hubs for specific models. Just my speculation, of course.

There are actually arbag wheels out there made by Raid, Victor, Atiwe and others. Momo, however, never got into that game. To be perfectly honest, with the liability laws the way they are right now... I'm not sure if I blame them.

That doesn't mean that there wouldn't be a Momo in my P-car.

On the second thought, Momo does make airbag wheels for OEMs like Subaru, just not for aftermarket.

PS. A Nardi airbag wheel in my Miata is actually nice enough that I did not feel a need to replace it yet after 2.5 years of heavy autocrossing schedule.

Yes, the liability is probably the kill (no pun intended. maybe) factor here.
There were some other brands mentioned that I will have to look at. When I first got the car, I thought I would take the air bag wheel off and buy my favorite MOMO. That moment of stupidity (I want the airbag there for me) faded away.

Just one of those late night thoughts. ANd NO, there was not alcohol involved.!

Actually, Chuck, personally, I feel safe without a bag (I'm always buckled in). But I would nto recommend it to others, just my own feel.

Actually, I recalled that there were several rennlisters that had no airbag via an aftermarket steering wheel. Could not remember who. I actually did ponder this longer than I indicated. I must apologize for 'stealing' a word from my wife....I believe it was her that characterized my idea of going with a non a/b wheel as 'stupid.' That's an upgrade? she asked. I said something extremely clever and funny back to her. My strategy of being charming failed miserably.
