Purely coincidence but I just looked at a 95 Cab that was wacked and repaired in the rear-end. It was rusting in the same places - both sides. I doubt this would be covered.

You really need to trace the earlier history of your car.

It may be that the car was repaired by an approved Porsche bodyshop, in which case it carries a lifetime warranty.

It may only apply to UK and yes it is a correct statement.

I had the rust around my windscreen repaired under warranty and the bodyshop who Porsche used sent a brochure stating that any repair done by an approved Porsche bodyshop comes with a lifetime warranty. This may only apply in the UK, but I don't see why it shouldn't apply worldwide - you'll need to check with Porsche in the US.

Other than this bs carfax, I wouldn't know how to start tracing the history of this car since I'm the 4th owner. I'll defiinitely let y'all know what's up tomorrow after I take it to the local dealer.

Well, I just got back from the dealership and basically I'm SOL. They say warranty has expired and I can't do anything about it. Oh well, I guess I gotta reach in the pocket once again and fork over for the body repair shop....

Hi Ern,

Sorry to hear this; at least you are doing the right thing and addressing the rust quickly before it gets worse.

Cheers,

David

Don't give up hope yet. You need to establish if a repair was made to this part of your car and if it was done by an authorised Porsche bodyshop. You may still have some comeback on them so do a bit of digging. Your Porsche head office may be able to trace any repairs done - have you tried them yet?

Just got my quote on the seams that are rusting....$347. Not bad. I'm taking the car to Brace's Autobody. Anyone in LA ever taken their car here?

Question

Hi Ern,

That sounds cheap. Have they told you how they plan to irradicate the rust, rust proof and how much of the car they will spray? To blend it in properly I would have expected that they would be wanting to do the panel next to the hood (with it removed or positioned away from the body) and then the tops of the wings. I would assume that there is some cavity or something that the seams are next to that has allowed the rust to get a foothold so I would expect them to strip all this out, blast out any additional corrosion, treat and attend to the seams before prepping and painting. How does this stack up with your expectations? I amy be talking crap but I would like to know what they think is causing the rust and how they propose to get rid of it as otherwise all you are paying for is a spray over and the rust will just come back... Can you get at the seams from behind, with the hood removed? If so then presumably it becomes a bit easier (and cheaper) though I still think they would want to do a fair bit of work. I'm not trying to be negative; just cautious!

Regards,

David
