When you guys say "ribs" are you referring to the old school looking Michelins that look like F1 wet tyres (continuous bands of tread around the circumference of the tyre rather than those V or W shaped patters that go across the tyre treads)?

Is there a place where one can purchase a set of new tires for a good price?

I switched to Yokohama AVS Sport-N1 and WOW....what a difference. Incredible wet/dry traction and much quieter than I could have hoped for. More than double the S03 life as well. I can't speak first hand to use on a 993 but they will be my tire of choice (since the new Michelin PS2's can't be had with 285/30/18) when I upgrade my 993 wheels.

It's really simple.......buy and mount the very best tires you can afford, period!
All the suspension, HP mods and big brakes don't mean squat without a way to transfer that to the road.
I just bought some Michelin PS2's (225/45/17 & 275/40/17) to replace my worn Bridgestone SO2's.
They were pricey but hopefully well worth the extra $ in performance #'s.
I will give my opinion on the PS2's performance vs the SO2's on my car when I get them mounted.
Good Luck.......ZP44

I went from S-03s to the Goodyear F1 GSD3s on my '99 BMW M3 and I liked them a lot better than the Bridgestones for noise and tramlining, plus they were pretty good in the wet. The Goodyears also had a 280 wear rating compared to 220 on the Bridgestones, but I sold the car before I could verify any differences in that category. I have S-03s on my 993, but will be considering the Goodyear's when the fronts are gone.

I went with Toyo T1R's since they could be had for about 750 for the set. I was looking at getting some BFGoodrich KD's, but I couldn't beat the price for the T1R's.
R's will be coming soon, but not until I have some more seat time. But when it's time for R's, I'll be running with the Michelin cups most likely.
