Fog lights repair "Yellow-ish"
 

I did try to "search" over this subject as I know we had a thread about 4 months ago in reference to this repair, but I could not locate it...

Someone said you can remove the fog lights, open the lens and paint the background (assembly) in order to make it look white and clean...

I'd love to know about it...procedure...what kind of paint...etc...

As per the linked thread that Eric posted, I still have the cracked lens I talked about that you would be welcome to if you would like to experiment with w/o screwing up your good ones. Let me know and I can throw it in the mail. :)

I'd be willing to give it a try if Pedro doesn't want to. Mine are a little off-color and would like to clean them up as well.

Pedro, I'll shoot pictures along the way. Depending on when Kelly's fog light arrives - and when I get my new suspension from Gert, it may be a week or two before I can do it. Either way, I'll post the results & pics.

I recently converted to euro-clear corner turn signals. My existing fog/driving light lenses looked terrible next to the new turn signal lenses. I didn't really notice any 'yellowing', but after 60K miles, they appeared completely sand blasted with multiple deep chips. I wanted to retain the existing look, so I took my original fog/driving lights to a local glass company (one that does custom 'art glass' projects) and had them buff out the front of the lenses. I had them put 1.5 hours into buffing them. They could have used another 1.5 hours, but I was happy enough -- it really cleaned them up -- especially the part of the lens that is directly in front of the fog light.

Thanks for the feedback...the problem is that when the assembly's interior gets a little yellow or dirty, maybe burned by the bulb's heat, the lenses will always show a little yellow effect when compared to the clear bright white look of the new ones...new ones cost about $400/pair...the "surgery" could be a cheaper and effective solution...if your problem is only on the surface glass, a buff/polish will solve...

NP, Pedro, the donated patient is being medivaced to the doctor as we speak. :) I'm very curious to see how he survives, too.

Based on Jeff's post, I cut the lenses off and painted the inside portion silver. So far so good. It was a dramatic difference.

Thanks for posting Chuck...it looks great! Then silver is better than white...I wonder how it would look painted white...

I think either would be an improvement over the yellow.

After removing the bumperette and the screw, the side closer to the center of the car does not come out. I'm afraid if I pull any harder, I may break the tab that's holding it in place. This is the case with both the driver and the passenger side fog lights. In which direction am I supposed to pull? Towards the side or the front of the car? What's the trick?
