Talking Rufus see's the doc (paintless dent repair)

Rufus had some very small imperfections that were driving me nutty. Today we saw the "Dent Dude" (661)877-1135 who took his sweet time, but made Rufus absolutely perfect. My heartiest recommendation. No affiliation or kickback (darn it).

Steve, did you have dents & dings repaired or stone chips & nicks?

Small dents were repaired. If you know some way to fix a stone chip in paint (other than dropping a dab of matching paint in the chip) please, please, please share.

No, unfortunately I don't have a silver bullet for stone chips. I've tried my artistic skills with artist brushes, factory paint, wet sand, etc., etc. but only ended up a wasted weekend. My results are analogous to the quality of my avatar vs. what Carlos or Alan produce - I'm just out of my league.

If you run across a "Chip Dude", please let me know - otherwise I think I'm headed toward the respray booth.

Eric,

But look at the good side to a front respray... you get to rationalize removing the bumperettes, clear corners, s-ducts, and perhaps an s-spoiler while you're at it. Might as well.... the spray gun is already loaded with your color! I also removed the headlight washer nozzles... as long as that gun was loaded!

Steve, you sound like a very reasonable guy, with reasonable suggestions. Will you discuss this with my wife?

Eric,

You have to start stressing the... ahhhh... errr... safety aspect. Yes, The safety aspect. That's what it is. This makes the car way more ... errr.... stable... yes, that's it. stable, and therefore safer to drive.

Gads, I'm good.

Ahh, I see. It's safer because the air flows more evenly across the hood whereas the stone chips created turbulence thereby causing instability which in turn may cause...

I think I'm getting the hang of this! - Thanks, OFE!

You guys are too much.

I have been thinking of getting an air brush for leather touch ups and if I ever get a stone chip. I think if you are very careful applying masking tape around the offense, I think you may be able to fill in the indent with multiple, light coats. Just a thought.

Eric, email me... I have an invitation for you. I think I smell a Tikirat.

James,

The dents weren't door dings, and not very visible in photgraphs. If you move your eye along a light source, there were a few indentations (in rather odd spots, methinks). They were conspicuous enough that a few kindly folks were very happy to point them out to me. A couple of others weren't really noticible until he checked the car over with his flourecent light. But its absolutely perfect now.

My guess is that if they try to straighten a ding with cracked paint, you risk the paint flaking off and leaving a real eyesore.

Steve,

My brother-in-law owns a small business that takes care of paint scratches and chips out in California. He is located in Newport/Laguna Beach area and does contract work for a lot of the high end dealers out there. If you're interested PM me and I'll give you his name and cell number.
