Default Convertible top Latch recall replacement failure

Had the recent Porsche recall done on the 993 convertible top where they replace the roof latches in february of this year. Low and behold one of the replacement latches failed.......the originals, which were replaced due to possible danger of roof opening at high speeds, per the recall, lasted 10 years without an issue..........went to dealer and had replacement latch replaced today...........verdict plastic part worn out in new latch after 8 months........... the recall was done in first place, in order to have more durable latch verus origional latch that had too many plastic parts subject to cracking...........was informed today, that the new part has a 2 year warranty, as a recall replacement part..........anyone had similar experience without subsequent failures ?

The convertible top recall, as I understand it, was to replace the motor, not the latch itself. The original motors had a smaller "capacity" and thus, over time, their gearing could crack. These cracks could lead to latch failure.

The recall, again as I understand it, addressed this by replacing the latch motors, not the roller part of the latch that engages the header.

My understanding could certainly be wrong, but are you sure that the part that failed was actually replaced in your case?

I am in the same spot: had the recall replacement done in March, now the driver's side front latch refuses to engage all the way. I believe that the motor is ok, since it spins and spins, but never engages. I'm set to take it in to the dealer on Monday.

The real drag for me is that none of the front top mechanisms gave me a bit of trouble before the recall.

Default replaced entire latch motor assembly

I had the entire latch motor assembly and roller replaced with the recall replaced with another latch motor mechanism, etc.....apparently a plastic part in the motor itself was stripped or worn out......the dealer said there have been several of the recall fixes back for new motors/latch, etc.......They only replaced the latch motor on the passenger's side.............in my case....no charge, of course........just inconvenience....fixed it in literally 15 minutes....

Basically, the motors are reliable UNLESS the controller (cab top ECU) fails or becomes
intermittent causing improper motor timing, e.g. if the motor limit switches fail & the
operator keeps the up/down switch depressed. The main problem usually results from
the controller and not initially the motors.
