I'm going to go with the FVD Daytona 340mm ($995) according to the online ordering site. Includes the airbag but I'm not sure if you also have to order a hub adapter? There's a wait list on my slippery slope though as PSS9 and 18's are ahead of this mod.

I have the carbon fiber version, and it is wonderful. You will love the wheel. Initially I was concerned about 340 mm being too small, but after street and track driving, I think it is perfect. Photos do not do the wheel justice, nor show the thickness of the rim, and how it is formed to your hands perfectly.

Mrsullivan, I was in the same dilemma when I had the wood trim steering wheel which I wanted to get rid of and I ended up switching to the carbonfiber wheel when I found one at a very reasonalble price. I also looked into the 996 wheels but it meant getting the wheel + the airbag = more $$$ and I kind of wanted to maintain the model year correctness. The 993 "Buick"-like wheels look just fine IMO... Good luck in your decision.

refinish yours with Surflux leather dye
Michael,
I found this outfit, but they also recommend a cleaner or two before actually applying the Surflex. What preparation did you do before applying the dye?

Default Gemballa

I think you should buy a Gemballa sport wheel! I happen to have one for sale, I bought it a while back from Gemballa North America, but never installed it. Will sell for what I paid, $500 + shipping. Let me know!

Can you get the standard wheels re-apholstered?

You sure can. Companies like this can do it.

i feel your dilemma.

when i first got my car in 2003 i really wanted to switch to the carbon fiber 996 3 spoke, but it just seems like a lot of money that could be put towards something more practical, like suspension work, exhaust work, or putting in the cookie jar for wheels.
so i decided that i'd rather refinish it and re-route the funds. fwiw, i do love the feel of the thicker 3 spoke, and if money were no object i wouldve switched it out already.

Andreas,

Colorplus are the makers of Surflux and were very helpful to me when I ordered.

I just used some basic leather cleaner that I had in the garage and cleaned it up the day before the dye job. It was summer in So Cal when I did it, so you might need to give it a bit more time to dry now. The whole process was surprisingly easy, with just 20 mins between coats. I had never used leather dye before and the results were fantastic.

The PCA board has some posts on Surflux in the detail section. Good luck.

And can these re-upholstering companies add thickness to the wheel and add a little bulge at the 10:00 and 2:00 positions? That would be great.

Here, let me help kick you down the slope. The steering wheel is the one component of the car that you and your skin are constantly in touch with and is the one input control that makes the most difference in terms of the drive path of your car. IMHO, a steering wheel should be switched out not necessarily for looks alone, but because you feel that the added tactility, vehicular control and, dare I say it, active safety of the car while you transport you and your loved ones would be enhanced by a more empathetic and controllable tiller.

mark...i know! that's what i love about the newer 3 spoke rims...the feel. maybe i should just get the leather one- i have a tendency to get mesmerized by the carbon fiber...and that's gonna really slow me down when i'm staring at it during a red light...haha.

This one allows full control of front and rear washer nozzles so you can spray other cars
