OK, I'm game. Where is a good place to find a (used?) stock airbox to start drilling on?

I think this may also help with SIA problems seeing that the car will run a tad leaner with more air what do you guys think.

Bruce,
Do you have pics of the airbox lid with 1" holes drilled?

Did you simply lay out as many holes as you could fit, or was there a protocol from the Cup airbox?

Hi all,
Seems this is something I couldn't even screw up,, but when I do, it sounds like the stock covers are not to hard to come across. Would there be any pros or cons to lining the inside of the holes with a mesh screen, to keep larger debris from making it's way inside the box?

I wouldn't worry about this. That's what the filter is for

Furthermore, look at the size of the actual airbox inlet opening - much larger than a series of 1" holes. The filter will do it's job.

After seeing this thread i ran out to look at the cover on my airbox and have a question....

Are you guys taking that trumpet looking thing off that starts at the front on the box and goes way inside? It looks like there are 4 tabs that could be released to get rid of that thing and open up the regular hole another 25% bigger with it gone.

Thoughts?

There is also that little rubber plug on the front end. Couldn't that be removed for added flow also?

Again Thoughts?

I drilled 48 little holes to match the circles embossed on the inside of my cover. I guess I'm only getting an extra 3.5 HP as a result of this screw up

Here's a pic of the Fabspeed airbox. PO put it on my car. Interesting note about the Stock VS. K&N Filter, good to know you don't need to spend the extra $. The fabspeed lists for $175, I'd probably try drilling if it were me.

Well it figures. I have been wanting a throatier sound, but don't have the bankroll right now to do anything to the exhaust. So I was excited for this simple mod. The PO must have already done it, since I didn't have the MS option, but it was already done. I was actually pleased with the sound at WOT. It is the low RPM I would like to sound throatier. Oh well, back to the drawing board. If anyone is in the Kansas City area and has a modified exhaust, I am anxious to hear the results.

Hi Shawn:

Sorry sir,....the car's air/fuel ratio doesn't change with holes in the air box cover,...

The Mass Airflow Sensor (between the airbox and throttle assembly) sees to that,........

If one has SAI troubles, its time to check out the SAI check valve and perhaps clean out the passages in the heads and cam towers.
