Brooke,
Sorry to hear about your car; that really sucks. If it does come to negotiations on write-off value submit copies of ads for similar cars and point out why your car is worth more than the norm and why it would cost more to replace it with a similar car. When my wife's car was written off in an accident they tried low-balling us by referencing high mileage, crappy colour combination cars in out of the way locations. I put together thirty ads from autotrader and indicated why most cars were worth less than my wifes plus why some commanded more money. They improved their offer by more than 10%...
Good luck, maybe it'll show up but if not then be prepared.
Regards,
David

Thanks again for all the support and advice. So far, I'm in waiting mode. I don't expect them to declare the car lost until the middle of next month. At that point the valuation discussions will begin. I'm still accumulating data to provide to them in anticipation of that time.
I will definitely keep y'all informed.

Can you do an "agreed value" with your insurance? I have my car set up with show insurance, but we also have an agreed value clause. I tell them exactly how much i expect to get in the event of something like this. No questions asked. Car is gone, they hand over the agreed amount. However, my premium is based on that value. Needless to say, i've insured for what I believe i should get, not what the market says. You might want to look into a clause like that for the next one. I wish you the best. Situations like these are horrible and often leave you feeling violated and anxious. Just not cool how these things happen.

Brooke,
we had a problem with getting the replacement value for a 993. It might warrant a phone call to an attorney. I am not an attorney but if the company is shafting you might need representation to get them to come to the table.

Whatever you do never accept any first offers from the insurance and don't listen to them when they tell you that they go by some book. Get independent representation from a private adjuster and show photos and documents to a professional collecactable auto appraiser to get an appraised value of what you actually had in the car. I hope the guy who took it gets deleted and I wish better luck with your replacement. Chris
