Default Oil Temp Gauge Flicker?

Guys,

I have recently noticed that my oil temp gauge intermittenly flickers sporadically and then stabilizes again. I only notice this after coming to a stop.

I recently had all 3 belts changed, thinking since the alternator belt was slightly cracked it wasn't holding a consistent charge, but that wasn't it as the problem still persists? The gauge sending unit starting to go bad perhaps??

Anyone experience this before?

Thanks in advance.

If the ground is disconnected, the gauge will peg ... when it flickers, is it going toward the top? Could be the sender, could be the wiring, check the plug at the back of the gauge, too.

Arrwin, try cleaning the pin contacts on the back of the gauge with a pencil eraser.

Thanks guys. How involved is getting to the back of the gauge?

They just pull right out, you may have to use a butter knife or something to get it moving, but be gentle so you don't dent the dashboard.

All the guages are pressure fit. Lever it out, but make sure you have some protection over the other guages or whatever you lever against. I've had the oil pressure guage out and it didn't require removal of the steering wheel - not sure of this one but I think you'll get away with it.
