Popping noise on HARD deceleration
Hello All,
I had a blast at my first offical DE/TT last weekend. I met a bunch of cool guys and I look forward to more events. I am pretty sure that I was the slowest guy on the track, but that one I know what to fix... I just don't know if I can
Anyway, during the afternoon runs, on the first day, I was running the car much harder than in the morning. A few times, going from full throttle to hard on brakes/down shifting, I would hear a "pop" like a balloon popping. It only happened two or three times and on different parts of the track. However, they were all during a hard braking. The next morning, I noticed a little smoke coming out of the driver side exhaust, but it cleared up after a few minutes. However, I never noticed this before... Anyway, the second day went well, but I did get a couple of "pops" again. Is this something to worry about? I did check the oil and it did look fine and I did not find pools of fluid under my car after a few days of sitting.
Gas should have been good, I used Chevron.
Any insite would be much appreciated

Hi Arlen...I had the same problem with my 1965 Porsche 356 and it was an exhaust leak...tiny hole in the exhaust...probably not the same for a 993...could be the fuel mixture as well...
Good luck...
Good luck...

Possibly unburnt fuel that is burning in the exhaust (backfire). No worries, mine does it as well.
As I understand it, typical 993 fuel maps go quite rich at upper revs, so this would explain the excess full once you lift..
