There's a whole page of Techron threads from the search, but here is just one with the opinion of Steve W.
Techron thread
The independent who has serviced 2 Porsches for me for 250K miles over a period of 15 years, and who himself has about 30 years experience with Porsches only, recommends Techron at least before every oil change. Say it's about $12 every 10K miles, or 1/10th of a penny per mile.
There is a small and a large bottle. I think the large bottle treats up to 22 gals.
At 120K my SAI ports had some deposits, but were not blocked, and I never had a cell. The carbon deposits in the combustion chamber were from slightly worn valve guides. If $100 worth of Techron has even only a 10% chance of putting off a $6K rebuild for 20K-50K miles, I like those odds. No affiliation except in my own wallet.

On advise of a few guys whose opinions I respect, several years ago I switched from Techron to LubroMoly fuel additives: Jectron (for injectors) & Ventil Sauber (for valves). The combined cost is about the same as a bottle of Techron. Both are added prior to my oil change.

can we get a fresh explaination of why it must be added 'before' an oil change. is it damaging to add after?

Because contaminants get by the rings into the oil.

Dan,

Do you suck the Ventil Sauber up w/ an intake vacuum source and let sit for awhile as the instructions say? I am wanting to try this, but have not seen many supporting opinions on this subject.

Large smoke plum at start up? Any problems with the cat?
