Default high rpm hesitation - any ideas?

I've experience this twice now...during some spirited driving and at high rpms, as the engine pulls towards redline, but before redline, I got engine hesitation, as if it was going to cut out...something like fuel starvation. It happened the first time in 2 gear, and then tonight at 4th gear. The car drives strong otherwise. It is not like my clutch is slipping. I got 56K miles now. Any similar experiences or ideas is much appreciated. Thanks again!

Sounds like the rev limiter.

but this is happening before the redline, right? i've redlined (although never in 4th ) without running into a delimiter. the one time i did hit a delimter (on an m3) the car did cut out on me, and that was pretty scary (i had no idea what had happened).

Yes it was before redline...and I've redlined before without hitting the rev limiter...
maybe it time for a tune-up since I'm approaching 60K?

Check your distributor caps and rotors, and while you in there, have a close look at the distributor belt condition. Perhaps some cross firing due to carbon build-up inside the dizzy caps?

I had a split plug wire that was causing that symptom. It was split down by the lower valve cover.

unlikely, but possibly low battery and alternator problem?
