Unfortunately, though you'd think they'd be the most definitive source available, you can't necessarily believe what they told you. I made that same phone call when I got my car, and from my VIN they said I had a Polar Silver C2S with factory aerokit. I even had them double-check. So, some previous owner did a really wild custom job to end up with the Arena Red Targa I drive around...

The build month is in the corner of the door jamb sticker that has the VIN. In my case, 4/96....

Strange, given that some '95s are 2,3xx - my 6/97 is in the 5000-range.

 

Those are only last four digits and don't mean if there's '95 that's #2000 and there's '98 that's #2001 it doesn't mean they're back to back cars.
