Russ, have you actually seen extended wiper life by lifting them for the winter? Blades usually deteriorate from exposure to UV rays, ozone, and other elements in the environment. Ironically, I have found that blades last longer in rainy ares (Seattle) than in dry, sunny climates.

This isn't to be sarcastic, but a similar checklist for guys who drive all winter. I do think winters are harder on a 993 than a "regular" car so some preemptive measures can help make winter no more miserable than it already is.
  • Put snow tires on
  • Clean summer wheels and store
  • Fresh coat of wax. (To let the salt wash off better )
  • Full service - oil change, all filters. Don't use 20w-50 if in REAL cold climate.
  • Check battery, replace if necessary. (Sub freezing starts are tough on battery)
  • Add ballast weight to front trunk if snow driving.
  • Lubricate door stop/hinges
  • Put ice scraper in car (take golf clubs out)
  • Fill washer bottle with anti-freezing washer fluid
  • Check/replace wipers
  • Winter Roadside kit: gloves, boots, work jacket
  • Add any shielding to car for flying cinders - mirrors, front end, headlight protection.
  • Check all lights (more nighttime driving in winter)

I'm hoping for some "Winterizng" in Soth Florida...it's hot as hell and hard to put the top down before sunset...

if u pull the battery for storage then wont u need to reprogram the car with the " porsche "hammer" in the spring???..I use porsche's trickle charger that connects thru the cig lighter..however i see the porsche manual it sez not to store removed batterys on a concrete floor .. go figure

Here's my plan for the Porsche this winter here in Minnesota:

(1) Put on the Blizzaks.
(2) wax car twice before end of October.
(3) Touchless car wash whenever temps get above 38 degrees F.
(4) replace windshield wiper blades, top off washer fluid.
(5) Drive car every single day.

Yeah, we need a year-round driver winterizing thread.
(4) replace windshield wiper blades
Any winter blades that'll conform to the curvy windshield? I checked for the one-piece Valeo style blades and they're not recommended.

I'm just puttin the Boschs on... when I'm leaving it parked outside when it might dump snow,, I just lift them up in the air so they don't freeze to the windscreen and get ice blobs on them. I do go through about 3 sets a winter on all my cars tho.

Glad I saw this thread--it reminded me to put the wipers back on the car--California "winterizing".

Also, here is a good idea to make the wipers last longer. I took this shot in Switzerland...

Jeff:Thanks for posting your list. Can you elaborate on "lubricate seals with Aerospace 303. Also, why not bleed/change the brake fluid annually?
