Default Rough idle. CEL

I started the car at work yesterday and got interupted while trying to leave. Sat there idling for a few minutes chatting. While sitting there idling I noticed that the idle seemed to be rougher / lumpier than it should be. After I got away I noticed that now the CEL is lit. It's a one hour drive to get the default code read.

Idea's?

Thanks
- Ron

Go to your nearest Autozone... I believe they will read it for free. You need to know the code to even begin to know what to look at.

Impossible to tell. My similar problem turned out to be a bad MAF sensor, but it could be many things.

Today the CEL light went out. Started normally, noticed light not on. Drove for twenty minutes light still out.

What does this indicate?

In all seriousness, about the only thing for sure it tells you, is that the emmissions system has (or had) an error, bad enough to light the warning light.

As KKim has said, take it to an autoparts store. Most will read the codes for free.

You can then report back with the error code number and you'll have more data opun which to diagnose the problem.
