Default lifter prices???

Just placed an order for three lifters as I have one that is yelling at me. Some time ago, maybe 6 months, I priced these as I wanted to replace all 12, they were ~$38 each. Today, prices have increased as they are $79 each!! Thats $950 to do all 12!!!!! C'mon Porsche, what are you doing to your loyal followers????

Ok, done ranting... Could be worse, I guess.. I could have a 996

Chris

That is consistent with what I'm paying. Indeed prices have gone up. Of course - all 12 of mine were shot. 10 of them fell out of the rocker arms with no o-ring on them at all. You might want to reconsider replacing just 3 if you see significant o-ring degradation.

Wow, I thought parts were generally cheaper in the US - beginning of the year I paid £400 ($700 approx) in the UK for a full set. With mine the O ring seals were shot through - I have been told it's not possible to just buy the O ring seals.

Yeah, then you'd have an ugly car and still have to replace the lifters!!

Ben, I will be doing just that once I see how the first three are. Then again, I may source this o-ring and try just the o-ring replacement. Looks to be teflon, not necessarily viton. HMMMMM...

My lifters were replaced @48k and fell apart when pulled out. This was done right after I bought it, so I don't know what kind of abuse it took before my ownership.

They are now made from semi-unobtanium, which accounts for the high prices.

Chris, I just priced these out on Pelican not four days ago.

Here's the link:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...r=S-105-141-03

They're still showing $38 on Pelican. Did you call and find out differently?

Just after you tipped me to Pelican Parts, I placed an order for 6 of those suckas. Pricing is as advertised

Thanks again to Leland for the tip, and, of course, thanks to Pelican! I keep forgetting to source late(r) model 911 parts from Pelican. But as time goes by, Wayne and company seem to stock more and more for our cars. Something to keep in mind when looking for factory parts at reasonable prices.

Thanks again Leland!

Thanks Leland, mine are not gone yet (couple of times I've had little noise after a long period of not driving but it has quieted) but I ordered 6 lifters so I have them when I need to fix (some of) them.

Finn, and others that have ordered lifters, did you do the tappet measurement process described in this thread, to determine which specific version of lifter to get?

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=14761

An excerpt, from Steve Weiner:
I think the lifters vary slightly in length to accomodate the production tolerances in the cam housings and still maintain lifter travel.

There are .05, .51, and .61 versions of lifters for these N/A engines. (there are 3 different versions too, for TT's). There is no break-in so if yours are noisy, I'd venture that the replacements are too long and they are operating in an almost collapsed position. I'd check to see what you have in the noisy side!
