Mr. Sullivan

No one from here laughed at you as a customer. A chuckle at the 'innovative fix' maybe.
Your recollection of the conversation is a bit different than ours but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We thought we were sharing our experience and information with you to help you, I was unaware it was not wanted or needed. We should be more careful in the future.
Everyones's opinion and experiences on solving a repair problem are allowed to be different. If you are confident that your repair took care of the CEL and your ports are clear of any carbon deposits and you have no emission problems, good for you. I am confident our service takes care of the blocked ports and solves the emission problem, good for us.

Good luck in all your future repairs on your Porsche.

Just an update to the Hergesheimer's Flush. 30K Miles since the flush and NO CEL.

Was it worth the $1K? To me yes. I was restting the CEL every other day and that was annoying.

Obviously YMMV, no affiliation, just a happy customer.

Tim,

Glad you posted your findings ...honesty in your attempted fix is admirable. While I don't quite understand why you're now poking at what you call my "sensitivity," I'll just leave it at that as I don't think it fruitful to try to explain myself any further. Good luck on your fix.

Man you left coasters are an argumentative bunch. What ever happened to "laid back Socal"
So if I understand the SAI issue correctly if you don't remove the HE's you are possibly only cleaning out 1 port in each bank. That is enough to keep the CEL off-for a while. The advantage of removing the HE's is it allows you to manually plug 5 ports and work one at a time. This ensures that all six are clear. Clearly it's more work but I would imagine that this fix would last a LOT longer.
OK anybody hear wanna share HE removal horror stories? I have heard some relating to older 911's and I would assme that any cars that have been driven on salt-covered northern roads would be the worst. I would think that soaking the nuts with PB blaster the night before and then using a torch would pretty much assure that you are not going to break a head stud.

Reynard,

I've removed the HE from my 993 w/o incident, but it's a SoCal/salt-free car so YMMV --I was less lucky with my SC, but no "horror stories". I think that the 993's "virtue" is that it is considerably younger than the Carreras and previous 911s which is a real hedge against breaking studs. No "assuring" you won't break a stud, but PB Blaster is a definite plus, too.

Actually, your readiness codes will not be reset , and they will not pass you.

I can see it now: "The audacity of someone to critize poor customer service at one of our esteemed (and very expensive) Porsche repair shops in the OC! We have to put a stop to this Tim Sullivan guy! It's going to put our expensive repair shops out of business!!"
WTF? You call them for a repair/CEL reset, get some free advice, then nuke them on Rennnlist? "I'll punch you out MF" Are you kidding me??? Excessive, uncalled for, and spoken with all the maturity and tact of a 11 year old boy.

Tim Sullivan, you Sir, are an a$$hole.
