There was a couple of threads a few days ago about this but didn't see the video
here it is, sorry if it is a repost. Tweaked GT2 does 7.15.63 record for road approved cars
agreed, good driver. He didn't encounter much traffic, but still had a few seconds more out of the car on a totally clear track. Also looked like he forgot where he was around Quiddlebacher, he hesitated slightly. But it's obvious Patrick Simon knows that track damn well. A lap like that takes not only skill and knowledge of the track, but also a serious set of grapes... they don't call it Green Hell for nothing...
Wish I had access to the 'Ring like our friends across the pond...
That video was incredible. He is a heck of a driver.
Can anyone provide more info on that race(?)? I'm curious why there were cars and bikes. There seemed to be a big difference in speed between those vehicle. Very interesting though. I can't imagine being able to drive like that.
The Ring is an open to anyone 13 Euro a single lap or less for mukltple lap, there has been threads about driving it do a search. I've done it but obviously not at that speed and I was driving a rental POS
It is mind boggling how fast he was going. The closing/passing speed of other vehicles on the track is just awesome. Obviousley, besides driving ability and knowing the track well, the tweeked GT2 is an immensely capable car.
Does anyone know if this lap time is faster than the absolutely amazing video of Hans Stuck in the BMW M3 GTR? The GTR is definitely not a road-approved car. Hell, I think it was barely race-approved.
CP sorry, I only have the DVD that I got from an insider at the 'Ring last month, I am not sure it is commercialized. A must see. If you have ever driven the 'Ring you would understand how sick these guys are, looking at my in-car video after that is laughable, and it was an 8:40 run.
I started timing the GT2 as it enters the 'Ring--the same point at which I started timing Stuck's M3 GTR. I stopped the watch when the GT2 slows (just before the end of the GT2 video). I stopped timing Stuck at approximately the same point that the GT2 slows. I timed both cars twice, and Stuck was approximately 36 seconds faster in the GTR.
Results with other starting and stopping points may be different--particularly since Stuck runs the entire North Loop; the GT2, it appears, does not.
Somebody chime in here and clarify the criteria for Nurburgring timing....According to the August 2005 edition of EVO magazine, "there are no official records [for road cars] and most of the timing is done with little or no independent ratification."
